JOSEPH WILLIAM ONsLow, aged 22, a lighterman, lost
Q his life on May 5th, 1885, in trying to save a boy from
drowning.

was held at Wapping, said that he was with Onslow '
on board a barge when their attention was attracted
by the cries of a boy who had fallen into the water
from off Wapping Stairs.
Onslow plunged into the water and swam towards
ig W the boy, but was seized with cramp and was drowned.
The boy was rescued by a man in a barge by means of
a boat-hook.
