Clergyman Loses his Life Trying
to Save a. Drowning Man.
(LI0yd’s, january uth, 1885.)
REV. G. GARNISH, a curate who had only recently
been ordained, lost his lite at Putney, on january 27th,
1885, in a boating accident. Two boats came into
collision, the smaller one was upset, and its occupants
five in number, were precipitated into the water.
One of them was unable to swim, and, when he was
sinking, the Rev. G. Garnish jumped from the other
boat and attempted to rescue him, but the drowning
man seized him and dragged him beneath the surface
so that both were drowned.
The others were rescued, but terribly exhausted.
